Megan Huibregtse, Dr.

Assistant Professor

Dr. Huibregtse is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health and Kinesiology at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Her research has primarily focused on brain health, from the neurobiological effects of subclinical concussive head impacts and partnered sexual strangulation to post-traumatic sex differences in neural circuitry and the overlapping sequelae of psychological trauma and mechanical neural injury. Additionally, she has expertise in the neuroendocrinology of female reproductive aging. Dr. Huibregtse’s research interests include understanding how white matter microstructural damage, particularly in female patients, develops and resolves over time after traumatic brain injury and relates to functional outcomes, how co-occurring psychological trauma and brain injury affect brain structure and function, and how a history of traumatic brain injury contributes to changes in neural integrity across female reproductive aging.
