Preeja Chandran, Dr

Postdoctoral fellow

I am a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Anatomical Sciences and Neurobiology at the University of Louisville, where my research focuses on vascular dysfunction and neuroplasticity following spinal cord injury (SCI). My work aims to define mechanisms that limit recovery and to develop therapeutic strategies targeting both acute and chronic stages of injury. My current work in the Khaing lab investigates vascular dysfunction caudal to the injury following chronic SCI and is supported by a Craig H. Neilsen Postdoctoral Fellowship. With over a decade of experience in experimental models of SCI, I have developed expertise in rodent injury models, surgical techniques, contrast-enhanced ultrasound imaging, immunohistochemistry, and molecular analyses, providing a strong mechanistic foundation for my research. My long-term goal is to establish an independent research program focused on restoring neurovascular function and improving quality of life for individuals living with SCI.
