NNS 2026

Erica Joo is a Research Assistant in the Martin Doughty Lab at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), specializing in the neuroimmunological response to traumatic brain injury (TBI). She holds a Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cellular Biology with a minor in Journalism from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Ms. Joo’s research investigates the immunomodulatory role of Pregnancy Specific Glycoprotein 1 (PSG1) in regulating microglial dynamics following cortical injury. By integrating high-dimensional flow cytometry and transcriptomic profiling, she seeks to decode the sex-dependent mechanisms of neuroinflammation. In the future, she hopes to utilize spatiotemporal transcriptomics to identify specific therapeutic windows at the intersection of neurotrauma and immunology.
