Dr. Yung-Hsiao Chiang, M.D., Ph.D., is a neurosurgeon and neuroscientist specializing in traumatic brain injury (TBI), neuroprotection, and neuroregenerative therapies. He currently serves as Superintendent of the Taipei Neuroscience Institute at Taipei Medical University and Professor in the Department of Surgery, School of Medicine, Taipei Medical University. He also directs the Neuroscience Research Center and the Core Laboratory of Neuroscience at Taipei Medical University.
Dr. Chiang received his M.D. from the National Defense Medical Center in Taiwan, a Ph.D. in Medical Neurobiology from Indiana University, and a Master’s degree in Medical Management from Tulane University. From 2007 to 2019, he served as Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at Taipei Medical University Hospital, and later as Superintendent (2024–now).
His research focuses on mechanisms and therapeutic strategies for neurological injury and neurodegenerative diseases, including traumatic brain injury, ischemic stroke, and Parkinson’s disease. His work integrates neuroinflammation, neuroprotection, stem cell therapy, and pharmacological interventions aimed at improving neurological recovery. Dr. Chiang has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in leading journals such as JAMA, Journal of Neurotrauma, Cell Transplantation, and Brain Research. His contributions span both basic neuroscience and translational clinical research, advancing understanding of brain injury mechanisms and potential therapeutic approaches.
