Welcome Message
Join us for NEUROTRAUMA 2026!
We are delighted to invite you to attend the 43rd Annual National Neurotrauma Society Symposium, to be held in Milwaukee, WI, from June 14–17, 2026, at the Baird Center. As in previous years, the NNS will co-host this meeting with the American Association of Neurological Surgeons/CNS Joint Section on Neurotrauma & Critical Care.
Our theme this year is “Brain Storming for Breakthrough.” Building on more than four decades of neurotrauma research, this theme reflects the bold ideas, creative thinking, and cross-disciplinary problem-solving that drive innovation in our field. Just as a storm generates energy and sparks change, our collective exchange of ideas can lead to transformative advances in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of brain and spinal cord injuries.
Milwaukee, a vibrant city on the shores of Lake Michigan, offers the perfect environment for inspired thinking and fresh perspectives. Its mix of rich history, innovative spirit, and welcoming atmosphere will provide a dynamic backdrop for collaboration and discovery. We thank our local hosts from the Medical College of Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Institute of Neuroscience (WINS) for generously sharing their expertise and connections to ensure NNS 2026 delivers exceptional value.
We have assembled an exceptional program committee and a team of dedicated volunteers representing a broad spectrum of expertise in both preclinical and clinical neurotrauma research. This diverse group—spanning multiple disciplines, career stages, and backgrounds—is committed to delivering a program that encourages the exchange of bold ideas, fosters interdisciplinary collaborations, and highlights the most exciting developments in our field.
In addition to cutting-edge scientific presentations, Neurotrauma 2026 will offer numerous opportunities for networking, knowledge sharing, advocacy, and mentoring. Building on the success of initiatives such as the Local Scholars Program and structured mentoring activities, we will provide platforms for junior scientists and clinicians to engage directly with leaders in neurotrauma. These interactions will help spark the very breakthroughs our theme envisions.
We look forward to welcoming you to Milwaukee and joining forces in a true “brain storm” of ideas and innovation. Together, we will create the conditions for the next generation of breakthroughs in neurotrauma research and clinical care.
Let’s harness the energy of Lake Michigan’s winds, stir up powerful ideas, and leave Milwaukee with a forecast full of breakthroughs.
Very sincerely,
Douglas H. Smith, MD – President,
