Marike Zwienenberg, Dr.

Pediatric Neurosurgery

Throughout my career I have had an interest in improving the care and outcome of children with Traumatic Brain Injury. I have been involved in many aspects of TBI research: this includes studying the mechanics of raised intracranial pressure
in rodents and metabotropic glutamate receptor activation/modulation as well as the
effects of repetitive TBI in juvenile rodents in a model specifically developed to further
our understanding of sports concussion.
My recent work in colaboration with emergency medicine, pediatric intensive care, and
pediatric trauma surgery, has focused on optimizing the clinical care and outcome of TBI using registry data to identify outcome predictors and factors to more specifically
guide hospital admission, use of cranial imaging and intensive care in children.
