Dr. Ben Churn is a Program Director in the Division of Neuroscience’s Channels, Synapses, and Circuits Cluster at NINDS. He oversees research programs focused on acquired epilepsies, including post-traumatic epilepsy, seizure initiation, detection, and prediction, as well as refractory seizures, status epilepticus, and related comorbidities such as cognitive impairment, intellectual disability, aging, and stroke-induced seizures. His scientific expertise spans synaptic transmission and plasticity, dendritic remodeling, and glutamatergic and GABAergic signaling, with a longstanding research emphasis on neuronal mechanisms activated by trauma and pathological excitation.
